Why are crisps called ready salted?
I often wondered why crisps are called “ready salted” as it sounds like such a strange name. Is there a meaning to this term, I am most confused about the “ready” part of the phrase.
Years ago packets of crisps did not have salt on them, they came with a little bag in the crisps and you would add the salt and then shake the bag, or add your own salt. Then crisps started to get sold with salt already on them, hence the name ready salted, i.e. the crisps have already been salted.
