What is betting under 1.5 goals in football?

When betting on under 1.5 goals you are predicting that you do not expect the football match to have many goals, and you certainly do not think the match will have 2 or more goals.

The odds available on under 1.5 goals are usually quite good as lots of football games have 2 or more goals, hence the odds are lower when betting on over 1.5.

Example Football Match

AC Milan are playing Chelsea at home in the Champions League, you expect this football game to be a very tight affair so you bet on under 1.5 goals.

If the match ends 0-0, 1-0 or 0-1 you have won your bet and you were correct, it was a tight match. However, any other result and you would have lost your bet.

Under 1.5 goals basically means you think the game will have 1 goal or none.

Due to the odds being reasonable I have worked out that you can add more selections as security. Let me explain. I predict a match which I think will be under 1.5 goals, the odds for this are (4.00), I then want 1-1 covered which is (8.50), and also 2-0 (7.50), and 0-2 (41.0). This game is Everton v Aston Villa. Put these all in a dutching calculator and you will find it\'s almost even money, i.e. £100 profits £90. I feel much safer doing this than just having under 1.5 goals, as this way you cover 3 other outcomes, and if you use Betfair you could have precious time to trade out if early goal etc, otherwise just let it ride out for a while. I thought of this after I backed Stoke v Chelsea being under 1.5 goals. Stoke were winning 1-0 and time was running out, but I knew just one more goal and I was losing my bet, then I thought well what would the other goal mean, it was either going to be 1-1 or 2-0 if another goal had been scored late on, thankfully none was, so I think it\'s nice to have the added security. Of course my example above was with what I would consider a high amount, but when using a dutching calculator you can enter any stake and get the proper amount to bet on each selection. Hope this helps someone who\'s interested in the 1.5 goals market.

Surely it\'s easier to select over 1.5 than under, even the games which you predict are going to be boring usually have at least 1 goal, sometimes loads. The odds are of course more attractive for under 1.5, but if 1 goal goes in your screwed and tied into your bet, no way of getting out at all, and next goal destroys you. I think only way to trade this is if goal does not get scored in first 20 min, and then trade out... not for me or the system I was looking at but thanks for explaining it...

This could be very fruitful in the French divisions as these teams have low scoring games, even the big teams like PSG usually do not score until late

This could be very fruitful in the French divisions as these teams have low scoring games, even the big teams like PSG usually do not score until late on. Will try and see, just got to avoid high scores, but looking at the stats 0-0, 1-0 and 0-1 happens frequently in this league.

Am finding it harder for me to choose a match which will have under 1.5 goals simply because I think it\'s in my genes to naturally want a ton of goal

Am finding it harder for me to choose a match which will have under 1.5 goals simply because I think it\'s in my genes to naturally want a ton of goals in a game. I do however like the idea of trying it out with tighter derby matches, these do often end with a goal or less.
As for the poor odds offered when doing over 1.5 goals, I have found a simple solution and this is picking 2 of them and putting them inside a accumulator ;)
Another thing I am hoping to try with under 1.5 goals is laying it and then backing the team I think will win 1-0. This of course will still lose the bet if 0-0 or 1-0 to other team, but every other result will be a win.

I think I now will try a system of betting under 1.5 goals in tight derby matches as a lot of these usually only have the 1 goal, and sometimes none.

I think I now will try a system of betting under 1.5 goals in tight derby matches as a lot of these usually only have the 1 goal, and sometimes none. The only drawback is your completely screwed when 2 goals or more are scored so maybe look to have some other security in my bet like backing 2-0 and 0-2, and see what the return is like when having backed all 3 scenarios.
